Community organization that is places outside Buenos Aires, in Berazategui. The organizations works in solidarity with Santiago Del Estero, which is a very poor province in the North. Further, the organization gives various educational workshops for both adults and children in the neighboorhood. It also have space for sports, so that the children in the area can come after school to play for example fotball.
Buenos Aires Volunteer (BAV) started to collaborate with the organization in 2010. After discussion with the organization and the local population, there was defined a need for improved English knowledge. The English education in the public school system is not very poor, and they have no possibility to practice what they learn. As most adults don´t speak English, they are not able to help their children with their homework. Also for the adults, it is a great advance to speak English related to work.
January 2011 our volunteers started giving classes in English for children and adults. It was enrolled 45 people in the classes, from the age 4 - 47!! This project needs volunteers, both to teach and administrative tasks relating to turning the project sustainable at the long term. Most of the participants have a very basic level, so it does not require that the volunteers have a lot of previous skills on teaching. There will always be two volunteers in each class, as well we have regular meetings altogether and we also have an experienced teacher that will give you advise in the process. Working with this organization gives you a chance to experience an other part of Argentina, and to do give an important contribution to the children
Our previous group of volunteers created a fundraise, and for the money they painted the classrooms and a wall for the children`s rights. See this link for photos: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150352847963037.350736.569968036&type=3
